I am all kinds of obsessed with books. I read non-stop and it’s something that I have loved doing for as long as I remember. To me there is nothing more satisfying than going to a book shop and buying ALL the books.
I have very successfully passed this on to my daughter. She loves books, loves visits to the library and reading before bedtime is her favorite part of the day.
Until recently, her choice of books had a sentence per page and were not all that much fun for mom to read. I love a good story and Spot just wasn’t doing it for me!
To save my marbles, I went and bought ‘The Giraffe, The Pelly and me’ by Roald Dahl, who is still to this day one of my favorite Authors. She loved it! We read it over the course if a few days and she was totally into this book. Since then we have also read ‘Fantastic Mr Fox’ and are currently reading ‘Mathilda’.
This mom is thrilled to be reading a story that she enjoys too.
Books for the future include:
George’s marvelous medicine
Charlie and the chocolate factory
James and the giant peach
Also very excited to start her on Enid Blytons ‘Folk of the Faraway Tree’.
Reliving my childhood with my daughter is a dream come true!
What books do your kiddles love?
Let just start off by saying that I am in no way at all even close to being a makeup artist. I am not a professional when it comes to makeup and beauty at all. So any posts you read on my blog about beauty products will be my personal opinion, and not a professional one. That being said, I am a girly mom. I love beauty products, I love buying new makeup and I love spending time taking care of myself.
Being a mom, and a working mom at that, doesn’t leave much time in the morning for any kind of beauty routine. It’s not that I want to leave for work looking like a catwalk model (Although that would be AMAZING), I just want to look like I haven’t rolled out of bed and into my office. I watched so many Youtube videos about applying make up. The thing is, these Youtube people are professionals. They have all the best products and quite frankly, intimidate me a bit.
I stumbled onto the Raddest Mom blog a few years back. It belongs to Lisa Osbourne, wife to Jack Osbourne (Ozzy’s son). They have a gorgeous little daughter called Pearl and if you are a mom, you should be following this blog. She puts up loads of videos and they are all really helpful, she concentrates a lot on food and health and how to make your own deodorizer, coconut body butter and loads more awesome bits and pieces.
The video of hers that I am completely in love with is her Easy 5 Minute Makeup video. She uses 7 products:
Come on, that is compeletly doable! This has become my go to makeup. Quick, Easy and using products that I actually own!
What has been the biggest high of your year?
I have had 2 big high’s this year. First would be my daughter’s 5th birthday. Any parent know’s the high that comes with celebrating a child’s birthday. And the second would be my first wedding anniversary. Married for a whole year! To such an amazing man!
What has been your biggest low?
I haven’t really had a biggest low. I have had a few rough patches, family drama etc. But nothing too low
Why was this moment your biggest high?
These moments were my biggest highs as they are big milestones. Firstly I managed to keep a person alive for a another year. That’s 5 and counting now. That’s a huge achievement. And the wedding anniversary is pretty self explanatory. We have been married for a whole year. With no major hiccups, no fights, no arguments, just a year of love.
As mentioned I have not suffered any low low’s. Its been a good year.
So as many of you will know I am a huge fan of my slow cooker. I haven’t had mine for long but it has changed my life! Being a working mom the earliest I get home is 4:45pm. Some days I work til 7pm. I, like all other Mom’s out there, want my family to have a healthy meal every night. It gets tricky though, because I simply don’t always have the time.
Yesterday morning before I left for work I cut up some potatoes and onions. Flung them in the slow cooker. Took some pork chops, marinated them in Italian salad dressing (I know that sounds weird, but just go with it), put the chops on top of the potatoes and onions. Set the slow cooker to Auto. Came home from work at 6:30pm and had cooked meal waiting for me.
I put the cooked chops and potato/onion mix into a oven dish to grill for a few minutes, just to add some color and crispiness. Added peas and mielies on the side. But by 7pm my family was eating. That simple!
For those who would like the ‘Recipe’, here it is:
- 4 Pork Chops
- Enough Italian dressing to marinate chops
- about 6 potatoes, peeled and chopped into quarters
- 1 large onion chopped
- I also added some garlic, parsley, salt and pepper to the mix. But you could use whichever herbs and spices you like.
Tonight I am doing a Chicken, Butternut and Rosemary casserole. Will let you know how it turns out!
Now this is a great topic!
What did you want to be when you were little?
After watching Free Willy, I wanted to be a Marine Biologist. And that stuck with me until Biology classes in High School. Let’s just say that I didn’t go to school for an education, but more for my social life. I never failed anything but now that I look back I could kick myself. I ended up taking all the ‘easy’ subjects and never really applied myself to anything. Although I have some amazing memories from my high school days.
Do you remember why you wanted to be that?
I have always had a connection to the sea. We have always lived close to the ocean, even now the beach is a stone’s throw away. I love all sealife, especially orcas. I just wanted to help all the animals!
Did your plans change?
Yes, I ended up not actually having any idea what I wanted to do. It was just so difficult to choose 1 occupation for the rest of my life!
What are you(do you want to be) now?
Now I manage a Guest House right next to the beach. Before my daughter was born I was very interested to go into nursing, which is also something that I have always wanted to do. But in order for me to do that I would have to move back to Cape Town, and with a baby and a husband that just didn’t seem like a good idea. I do love my job though, I work with amazing people. Most who have become like family. I live very close to home, which is convenient and its a stable job environment. So I wouldn’t give it up any time soon.
Are you happy with the path you are on?
I am very happy with the path that I am on.
What would you do if could change it?
Having a child, who is growing up way to quickly for my liking, I would love to be a stay at home mom. I would love to be able to take her and fetch her from school every day and take her to all her activities.Unfortunately the reality is that in order to live the life that we life both of us need to work. So maybe if I won the lottery…….
What is stopping you from changing your path?
Day 2 of the Blogger Challenge over at Renaissance Blog is quite a difficult topic to everyone I suppose. Mostly because it is quite a personal topic. And being online you don’t often see people’s flaws or personal problems. This is a bit sad though, because my favourite blogs and online peeps are the ‘real’ ones, the ones that don’t mind to write about whatever is bothering them or going wrong in their lives.
So, firstly, why did I choose this challenge? I chose it because it’s different to most challenges, and I like different. When you do a challenge and you are given the whole month’s worth of topics in advance you get to cheat a bit. And it’s not much of a challenge. The downside to this is that you don’t know exactly what is coming next. Fear of the unknown!
What about this challenge is so difficult for me? I am not a very ‘open’ person. Only those very close to me know the real me. I am not good at sharing and until I trust you completely, it’s not gonna happen. This challenge asks very personal questions, which I will try my best to answer.
If I could choose a part of me that I would like to change what would it be? Such a difficult question, because I have so many. But if I had to choose one it would be my low self esteem. Many people laugh when I say that I have low self esteem, but I do. I am very good at pretending that I don’t though. I don’t have a very good body image, and I think that affects me in many ways. This is an especially difficult topic because I have a daughter, and would hate for her to end up with these issues because of me!
